BTM is delighted to announce the addition of two talented young players to their ranks - Aidan Johnson (cornet) and James Lord (percussion) - as the band continues its sustainable personnel drive in readiness for their return to Championship Section status in 2025.
Jeff Hutcherson, BTM’s Musical Director commented: “It's great for the band to bring in Aidan and James, and for them to begin developing their playing with top-class musicians such as Seamus Gallagher and Olly Thomas. We are looking forward to integrating these players into the band, with their first contest outings being in just a matter of weeks”.
AIDAN JOHNSON
Aidan hails from Bath, Somerset, and has been playing the cornet for approximately 12 years.
He began his musical journey in brass bands soon after starting to play, and these experiences have significantly contributed to his development as a musician. Most recently, he was a member of Llwydcoed, having previously performed with bands such as City of Bristol and Filton Concert.
A highlight of his brass banding experience so far was performing at the Royal Albert Hall with The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain as part of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
Aidan is thrilled to join BTM on "bumper up", where he looks forward to further honing his skills sat next to Principal Cornet Seamus Gallagher & preparing for his first contest with BTM!
JAMES LORD
Originally from Abingdon, Oxfordshire, James is a first-year undergraduate studying at Cardiff University School of Music (Cardiff University).
With a background in brass bands since the age of nine, he recently transitioned from cornet to percussion for his latest contest performance... and has decided to remain with the "shedbuilders"!
James has performed with various ensembles including Kidlington Concert, Oxford Bach Choir, and the Oxford County Music Service.
In addition to his work with brass bands, James regularly performs as a church organist and contributes to services at St. Helen’s Church (Abingdon).
James is excited to continue advancing his musical skills and taking on new challenges in upcoming contests & concerts with BTM!
